Kids Come out to Orphan Street

Orphan Street Clothing Shop is born

Thursday 2nd November saw the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the dynamic and increasingly world class Cape Town fashion story: The opening of Orphan Street Clothing Shop (a clothing shop on Orphan Street).

The brainchild of husband and wife team Matt and Molly Kieser, O.S.C.S serves as the new home of the Sol-Sol and Maylee brands (owned and designed by Matt and Molly respectively). The past few years have seen Sol-Sol cement itself as one of the nation’s best fashion brands, collecting accolades left, right, and centre. A feature of Highsnobiety and Hypebeast, the brand has made its way into the hearts of even the most discerning fashion watchers. While less immediately recognisable as a brand, Maylee has nonetheless produced collection after collection of quality womenswear convincing even casual observers that the small scale of the brand is definitely a choice rather than a necessity.

Operating out of  Cape Town’s  famed streetwear mecca, Corner Store, Sol-Sol and Maylee’s journey into their own space is a necessary one. In O.S.C.S the pair have a shop that perfectly matches the ambitions of both brands. The space is a beautifully designed ode to modern retail sensibilities – a minimalist shopping experience in defiance of the fast fashion clutter that we become so used to. The launch itself doubled as a launch for Spring/Summer ’18 ranges which featured beautifully constructed pieces, one offs, and some new collaborations. Jameson Whiskey came on board and had the drinks flowing as DJ’s Jon Laura and Luca Williams kept the energy up from behind the decks. Take a look at the gallery and see the faces of the people who showed up to welcome O.S.C.S.
